State Rep. Donna Howard, a Democrat, is upset with the way a report in the Houston Chronicle portrayed the Texas maternal mortality rate. The story incorrectly identified the number of women who died in 2012 in the state, and the data was later proven to be incorrect. As a result, Howard's office apologized and is considering new legislation to improve the state's maternal mortality rates.

In the March 31 staff report, the name of the Dallas city manager was misspelled. In addition, the name of the state fair was misspelled, and the name of Lake Austin was miswritten. The story was also missing some information, such as the address of the Joint Base San Antonio. The state was also left out some information, such as a list of military personnel who tested positive for drugs, based on a website.

The article also misrepresented comments made by Tarrant County Sheriff Bill E. Waybourn, who said that the arrival of undocumented immigrants with criminal convictions would pose a danger to the public. Also, Clare Proctor spelled the name of Dallas City Council member Omar Narvaez incorrectly, and Raga Justin mischaracterized a statement made by a Tarrant County official.

In addition to the incorrect information on the Texas Supreme Court's location, the article incorrectly referred to the location of the House and Senate's Republican primary elections. In 2014, three incumbent statewide Republicans lost their primary elections. These losses occurred in the GOP lieutenant governor primary. The article also incorrectly stated the number of Texans that could lose access to food stamps, and the number of precinct chairs on the Hood County Republican Party executive committee.

The article also erred in reporting the day the Court of Criminal Appeals halted the execution of Robert Roberson. The report also erroneously stated that Texas had ties between child support evaders' car registration renewal. However, the Texas Attorney General's Office spokeswoman said that the state didn't need legislative approval to tie vehicle registration renewals to child support.

The article has been revised to reflect the fact that a teacher's placement on the Texas Child Abuse and Neglect Registry does not automatically end her teaching position. Additionally, a story about money to investigate student-teacher relationships in a Texas school district is incorrect. Instead, the State Board of Education can sanction superintendents and investigate improper relationships between students and teachers.

House Bill 2861 included a plan to build a toll road on Interstate 35 north of Austin. In addition, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center was responsible for providing medical care to Texas prisons. Although the House Bill does not directly affect the Texas Department of Transportation, it can have a positive impact on the state's budget.
